+ Stick House - New Feature Project

Montmorency, Victoria

Completed December 2019
DESIGN + BUILD Project

Stick House is a discreet renovation in the beautiful suburb of Montmorency. We were eager to address and utilise a generous garden setback perfectly suited for entertaining. The existing layout of the home failed to integrate a connection between this beautiful front garden and the internal living spaces.

A full re-configuration of the existing internal layout pushed the sleeping quarters to the first floor and the open plan living, kitchen & dining downstairs opening up to a generous paved external alfresco dining and entertaining area. Privacy measured

A sizeable section of the existing first floor space was removed to allow a double height void which accentuated the existing cathedral ceiling to the first floor. This sense of space upon entry compensated for the existing lower ceilings to the kitchen and dining spaces.

An amazing Vic Ash timber screen lines the edges of this void, consolidating the ground and first floor spaces. A mezzanine home office and second living space to the first floor takes full advantage of treetop views and morning sunlight.

The front facade was reworked to incorporate timber look vertical hit and miss battens complimenting the Vic Ash screening internally. An open frame steel pergola sits nicely over the external entertaining area with a canopy roof extending over the entry and stacking doors from the dining area to provide essential weather protection.

A neutral palette of materials and finishes were used throughout which accentuated the timber detailing. Strong contrast black accent walls, cabinetry and tiling can be seen consistently throughout the home.

Property Staging & Styling

Don’t underestimate the power of staging and styling a property when looking to sell your home or townhouses. First impressions count for everything, and an experienced stager will know the desires of the target demographic and be able to trigger a positive emotional response and gain an edge in a competitive market. Done correctly, it will add value to your home and set it apart from other similar properties on the market.

The creative crew @ Ashley O’Brien Interiors staged and styled one of our recently completed townhouse projects in Montmorency. Great minimalistic styling and furniture that has been selected and placed to appeal to a large demographic.

New Design Project:

Rammed Earth Home on Acreage

Design has been finalised for a single storey home on a beautiful farm property in Melbourne. The design incorporates large expanses of glass which take full advantage of beautiful views over the landscape. Clever use of rammed earth walls compliment the landscape while the corrugated iron pays sympathy to the traditional farm sheds which form a significant part of the neighbourhood character.

Award WINNERS

We were honoured to receive the Mayor’s Award at last nights Whitehorse City Council Built Environment Awards 2019. Our Nunawading Residence was recognised for its contribution to good design and sustainable practice within the City of Whitehorse. The Mayors Award is chosen by the Mayor from all shortlisted nominations and recognises an exemplar project which reflects Council’s values and initiatives.

Thankyou to Whitehorse City Council for hosting the awards night which occurs every two years to showcase their recognition of great design at a local level.

Loftier House - Shortlisted for an Award

Our 3 Storey Nunawading Project has been Shortlisted for a Design Award in the 2019 City of Whitehorse Built Environment Awards. The City of Whitehorse Built Environment Awards celebrate the value of good design, creative thinking and sustainability in the built environment.

The Awards showcase the best in design and recognise the people who contribute to good design and sustainable practice within the City of Whitehorse. Its great to receive recognition for the second time on this project following the HIA Awards end of last year. Fingers crossed its named as a winner in its category.

This three storey contemporary home is a response to creative thinking around how to provide a generous family home on a small piece of subdivided land in an established neighbourhood.

The triangular land with a significant easement influenced the building form and small footprint.  To sit comfortably in the streetscape the front 2.5 story façade was designed to give the impression of a two storey appearance.

Along with responding to the site and wider streetscape, a key objective was to design and build the project using standard construction methods for a cost effective build price while using clever design to create a high end architectural feel.

Peoples Choice Voting is now open online. Head over and VOTE NOW to cast your vote by 21st May 2019.

3D Walkthrough - Greensborough Renovation

Our in house design team can provide clients with realistic 3D images and interactive walk-through experiences of their project prior to starting construction. These realistic visual experiences allow clients to make changes and confirm finishes, colours and fittings before we start works.

Upcoming VCAT - 3 Townhouse Development

We hope that success continues at VCAT this month for our 3 Unit Townhouse Development in Greensborough. Banyule City Council refused the proposal mid 2018. These Townhouses are sympathetic in style to the traditional style pitched roof homes in the area but have some interesting design elements that set it apart from the cookie cutter developments currently being overdone in the Banyule area. Introduction of a neutral colour palette paired with timber accents and feature timber window shrouds create the point of difference and will hopefully set them apart come auction time. Fingers crossed that this is approved and build commences start of next year.

Recreation House - New Project Feature

We have just received final photographs from our shoot with Urban Angles of this additions and alterations project in St Helena. Head over to our Portfolio Page to check out the details. The project involved the Design + Build of a new addition at rear and also included landscape works; Pool/Spa, Basketball court and net system.

A full face-lift to the existing part of the dwelling was undertaken as part of the design and scope of works that included colour and render to existing brickwork, new oak engineered floorboards throughout and some reconfiguration of internal spaces within the existing footprint. One main design brief from our clients was to maximise the usable space in the rear yard. integration of a half basketball court with practical boundary netting, alfresco decking with outdoor kitchenette and BBQ area, in ground pool with spa and two separate lawn areas definitely ticked this box.

HIA Awards Finalist - Nunawading Project

It was a great night at the Victoria Housing Industry Association Awards Friday 11th November 2018 at Palladium Ballroom in Crown Melbourne. It was our first year of appearing at these awards and we were fortunate enough to be nominated and recognised as 1 of 3 finalists for our 3 Storey Nunawading project. Congratulations to all who took home a win that night. Well deserved.
